VITO
PLAYS WITH:
WHAT DO YOU KNOW? 6-12 YEAR OLDS TALK ABOUT GAYS AND LESBIANS

Vito is a ground breaking documentary which chronicles Vito Russo, known for his ground-breaking book The Celluloid Closet (1981) which traced the portrayal of LGBT characters throughout cinema history, and as an outspoken gay rights activist along with LARRY KRAMER whom established ACT UP, SILENCE=DEATH, which helped change the government's response to HIV/AIDS and improve the landscape for those living with the disease, ADVOCATE celebrity journalist, and scholar.

Russo's life is showcased with MUST-SEE personal interviews with LILY TOMLIN, BRUCE VILLANCH and vintage footage with great friend BETTE MIDDLER performing to calm the angry crowd at New York's 1973 Pride Rally - to his co-founding of GLAAD in 1985. Vito is most of all, a source of inspiration to new generations of LGBT people thanks to the pioneering battles he fought on behalf of the gay liberation movement - from Stonewall to ACT UP.
