NORTH SEA, TEXAS PLAYS WITH: THE FIRST A lonely gay adolescent named Pim suffers the pangs of unrequited love in this poignantly rendered coming-of-ager. Pim is played by stellar newcomer Jelle Florizoone who was one of about 200 teenage boys who auditioned for the role of Pim and was the immediate choice for the filmmakers. Pim lives with his ex-beauty queen, single mother and local accordion starlet in a small Belgian coast town. He occupies his time drawing and dreaming but when Pim turns 16 he dreams of Gino – the boy next door. Friendship grows into love when Gino, cautioning Pim to secrecy, supplies the besotted boy’s first sexual experiences. But when Gino goes off romancing and living with a girl, jealous Pim focuses his wistful romantic fantasies on Zoltan, the hunky itinerant fun-fair worker who comes to board at his house.
